mini pond
What i miss most of my marriage is the lake my ex husband had. I know , i said just small talk nothing personal, but i can't help it, sorry.
I do not miss him, not the house, not the garden, the silence in it, the view over the sea, the tall pine trees and the palms, that now are a 4 star hotel and belong to a vulgar rich person that fills the summer air with loud karaoke music. No i don't miss that.
But the lake, i do miss it, very much. I recently discovered my ex sold everything just to keep the use of it until he lives, after his death all will be gone. I feel sorry for my kids that will not own it and will see their childhood memories taken away by someone else. It's life, maybe its better if they have no ties to this place so they are free to go wherever they want to.
I miss the animals there, the geese the ducks the egrets herons swans and all the plants, many of wich i planted myself. A small paradise in wich i spent most of my time as a married woman. My ex husband, 27 years older than me, was very jealous and did not allow me to bring the kids with the trolley for a walk on the seaside, he wanted me to say in our park. My golden cage it was. As much as i felt trapped in it while being there now that i lost it i miss it... so i tried to recreate a little bit the atmosphere here where i live now. It is truly fascinating to watch the fishes move, i have only two koi and some goldfishes and some gambusia for keeping the water mosquito free. I planted some water lilies and a lotus flower and there are some floating plants don't know the english name its eichornia crassipes in latin. Blue gorgeous flowers, hope soon. They died off last winter, they cannot stand temperatures under 10c and there were some dead brownish things floating there but i did not remove them, and in march i had the surprise to see some fresh green appearing in the middle of the brown. They were not completely dead.I was very happy. I hope they get big again soon because these plants have the gift to filter and clean the water that in this moment is not very clear. I am considering applying some pump or some uv sterilisator to avoid the water to be invaded by algae. I'll see. No money right now for these extras.
It's one of my biggest faults to focus on decoration rather than on making money.
I am the type of girl that has beautiful dishes and nothing to put on them.Or goes out to buy some food and comes back with a book or with flowers. I always considered the nourishment of the soul more important than the rest. I will end badly, i know, under a bridge with very fancy picnic blankets.
Back to my minipond, with just a bucket of water and some plants, it is only a fraction of what i had before but appearantly i made things right as we have now two new residents wich delight us in the evenings with their quaking. I love frogs, i really do. Funny and useful animals, as they eat the moskitos. I spotted two by now i hope they make babies. On the third pic you can see one of them peeking out of the water. They look more like toads then frogs they are brownish in colour not a nice green. But they are very welcome.

I have a small pond a bit like your, but I can't seem to keep fish alive in it. I suspect that raccoons catch the fish. Maybe some bird, but for some reason they always vanish. Eichornia crassipes is known a Water Hyacinth in English. It is okay for a pool like your,s but in open bodies of water, and under the right conditions, it can take over an entire lake or pond in very little time. A bad problem in parts of the US. Nice to have frogs too. Always makes me wonder where they come from...
