The world is quickly changing
And I didn't notice it... too busy fighting my personal battles against windmills.
I have been silent for a long time because of painful family matters that are part of all of our lives and for which we are never prepared.
...
As I write a strong wind has risen and I hope it does not do too much damage ... After the great heat of the past few days, the weather forecast for today is thunderstorms.
Today I realized that this blog has existed for ten years and the initial intention to create a space to talk about my sins and my sewing projects quickly boiled down to a boring complaint where I vented my frustration.
Now, to celebrate the tenth anniversary, I decided to change.
I would really like to try to leave a trace of myself that is also of help to others who read and not something boring from which to immediately take eyes away.
The world is changing, I do not even want to dwell on the past two years that have been stolen from us and on the uncertain future made of increases in the cost of living and increasingly restrictive measures of individual freedom according to laws decided by those who are "protecting" us from ourselves before with our existence we change even the laws of nature, destroying the world. (In theory even breathing we emit carbon dioxide perhaps for this reason they want to exterminate us, closed parenthesis)
The cost of food, fuel and bills forces even those who have never thought about it to adopt measures that for our ancestors were normal. Frugalism, saving.
I realized that because of my out-of-the-box lifestyle I have been living according to what is becoming trendy now, namely:
-Mending and fixing clothes instead of buying new ones. Some of my clothes are thirty years old. The evil ones call me a compulsive hoarder, I call it romantic respect for the environment.
-I do not even throw away scraps of fabric, pieces of wire, twine, elastic bands, caps, buttons, even the smallest because I do not consider them waste but part of new objects that sooner or later will see the light. And also everything I don't throw away doesn't have to be disposed of by others.
My chaos makes sense.
(With old paper you can make fuel briquettes to use in the stove. With old rags, sheets, towels you can make strips of fabric to join and with which to make balls of yarn to be used to weave carpets, containers, mats, or to work with a large crochet to make cushions, bags, kennels for animals.)
-Many of the things I need I do with my hands instead of buying them. The vast majority of the things I have at home have been sewn or built by me, often from recycled materials. Transforming necessity into a virtue.
-My forced evictions from my past homes (you may read about it in earlier posts) have taught me the importance of always choosing a new place with some land around it, in order to have some land to cultivate to cope with times of economic uncertainty by producing some basic vegetables such as tomatoes, aubergines, zucchini, peppers, lettuce, chard, etc. Since they ripen all together and it is not possible to stagger the harvest if not partially, I found myself with the embarrassment of large quantities of vegetables all at once to be transformed and preserved so as not to waste them.
So I learned to preserve, to dry, to put in oil, to freeze just like our ancestors did. A life with hands always ruined, nails dirty with earth, clothes torn from brambles, a somewhat unkempt appearance ... The times when I was the wife of a lawyer and obliged to take greater care of my person so as not to embarrass him with his friends are long gone. Today I can walk around with aprons and scarves in my hair without having to give explanations to anyone.
To celebrate ten years of my blog I have now the goal to soon start publishing pictures of my works in progress and of my ideas. This was the original purpose of my online writing.
Stay tuned!
It's really nice to be able to read you, after so many years, I hope that no more time should pass before I can read another of your articles.
